Dead by Daylight: Resident Evil: PROJECT W Chapter review – the jokes are over

Umbrella left such a clear trace of evil that the Essence dragged into its worlds several more of its agents and a whole group of heroes who devoted their lives to fighting the mega-corporation. We are talking about the new Dead by Daylight and Resident Evil: PROJECT W Chapter collaboration from a popular online games provider Friv2Online.

As the name suggests, the new DLC for the ever-popular asymmetric horror Dead by Daylight focuses on the eugenics Project W, which, according to Resident Evil lore, was founded by the ambitious scientist Ozwell Spencer with the goal of creating a superhuman race.

With the support of the Umbrella Corporation, Spencer traveled the world, selecting dozens of children with a high level of intelligence in order to give them the highest education and subsequently introduce a new strain of the virus into the bodies of the wards. Albert was one of two Wesker test subjects who managed to survive the monstrous experiment.

For me, and for many, I think, Resident Evil fans, Albert Wesker is one of the most significant and colorful figures in the history of the franchise. A power-hungry, prudent and invariably stylish man with neatly slicked blond hair and sunglasses - even Paul Anderson came up with inspiration to embody him in his paintings.

Our acquaintance with the cult antihero happened back in the 1996 game, where Wesker appeared as the head of the STARS special forces, and then safely betrayed everyone. His special powers were first revealed in the 2000 Dreamcast's delightful Resident Evil Code: Veronica, where we also saw his strange, bestial eyes.

And the farewell to Wesker took place in the mouth of the volcano on Kijuju, when he used the power of "Ouroboros" in the battle with Chris and Sheva in Resident Evil 5 - this is the moment that became Wesker's starting point in the universe of the Entity, according to the legend described already in Dead by Daylight.

The Puppeteer-Wesker appears wearing a signature raincoat over a black suit (according to some reports, made of crocodile skin). Black gloves, black glasses, a strong-willed chin, and a wry, smug smirk that appears on the anti-hero's face when he uses the Ouroboros power.

Under normal conditions, Wesker is accustomed to wielding a combat knife with about the same effective range as a Legion hunting knife. Albert was awarded a movement speed of 4.6 m / s and a huge terror radius of 40 meters, as well as an average height, which is quite consistent with the canon - according to the "wiki", the height of the original character is about 183-190 cm.

The strength of the maniac is simultaneously associated with his superhuman reflexes and with "Ouroboros". If you hold the ability button for a while and then use an attack, Wesker will make a lightning dash forward for a decent distance. The ability has two charges, and the second dash can be made immediately after the first, after changing direction.

Charging the gust comes with a tentacle release animation and is pretty fast, with Wesker slowing down a bit to give the Survivor time to maneuver. Albert quickly recovers from the dash, returning to his original speed, and does not receive penalties for colliding with objects.

It is noteworthy that, like the Legion, the Puppeteer can use the "rush" to quickly overcome boards and window openings, but he cannot immediately make a second dash after that. Otherwise, the victims would have had no chance of survival at all.

Of course, this wouldn't be Dead by Daylight if everything worked like clockwork, so it's not uncommon for the Puppeteer to break through the "rush" if he tries to dash at a distance too close to the obstacle. I don't know if this is a feature or a bug. Perhaps he just does not have time to pick up the desired speed.

When Wesker hits a Survivor with an "Infectious Gust", he firstly infects him with the Ouroboros Virus, and secondly, grabs the victim with his tentacles. If there is an obstacle behind the unfortunate, Wesker will hit the victim against the wall with inhuman strength and inflict damage, and if not, he will throw the survivor far ahead with feeling, and he will also be injured if he crashes into some kind of obstacle.

The Ouroboros infection builds up over time and causes the Survivor to become Slowed down. The more victims are infected, the faster the maniac restores his ability. If the Puppeteer manages to hit a fully infected Survivor with a burst, he automatically grabs them to carry them to the nearest hook.

Similar to the Nemesis, Wesker's map will see visible crates of Ouroboros Healing Sprays. The number of boxes is seriously limited, and the survivor using the spray reveals his location to the maniac.

In addition to being a delightfully dangerous and very easy to use ability, Behavior has rewarded Wesker with dozens of voice lines and some rather interesting skills that will perhaps slightly transform the stagnant Dead by Daylight meta.

For example, the Better Anatomy skill increases the Puppeteer's obstacle crossing speed by 30/35/40% once every 30 seconds if a survivor within eight meters of him makes a quick jump over boards or a window opening. Combined with the power of the maniac and the practical joke blocking perk, this skill will significantly increase the chances of catching lovers of waltzing around several window openings.

Another great skill, Enhanced Perception, allows Wesker to see the auras of opponents within 16/18/20 meters while he is carrying a Survivor. An extremely dangerous boon that I think could pair well with Trickster's Fanaticism and replace (or even complement!) BBQ and Chili to make it impossible for even the most secretive survivors to escape.

The third skill "Last Stage" turns on when the gate is powered up and remains active for another 20/25/30 seconds after it is opened. The perk hangs on all wounded, mortally wounded and hanging on the hook of Wesker's opponents the Weakening effect, which does not allow them to restore health points.

Playing as Wesker is not difficult and extremely enjoyable, he quickly closes the distance and breaks the usual tactics of survivors who are used to waiting for rapprochement with the enemy in order to distract, bring down the boards on his head, or blind him with a lantern. Finally, Wesker is the first maniac who is able not only to catch the victim at the very exit, but also how to crack his impudent carcass against the fence, which prevents the maniac from reaching the survivors outside the gate.

The bulk of the upgrades for the Puppeteer amplify the properties of the impulse and the Ouroboros virus, while ultra-rare items allow Wesker to break boards with a dash and infect survivors at the very beginning of the match, followed by the imposition of the Vulnerable status if they do not have time to apply a healing spray before the full mutation.

The mysterious Ada Wong and the young Rebecca Chambers joined the survivors. The first one should be familiar to all of you (as far as Miss Wong can be familiar). She is so secretive that even the circumstances of her penetration into the world of the Entity remained a mystery - I would not be surprised if she is here on some special assignment.

Many may not remember Rebecca, but the girl appeared in several games in the series, and first appeared in Resident Evil 1998 as a field medic and the youngest member of the STARS group, and also received one of the main roles in the Resident Evil Zero prequel.

Ada is a lone hero. Her Bug perk allows you to install tracking devices on partially repaired generators, which for 60/70/80 seconds will reveal their aura to survivors and show the maniac if he approaches within 14 meters.

The Hasty Heal ability will instantly increase Ada's own healing progress by 40/45/50% if an ally within 32 meters of her loses a health level.

The "Below the Grass" perk is activated when Ada is left alone with a maniac. For 70/80/90 seconds, the traces-cracks and pools of blood left by the girl instantly disappear, making Wong almost invisible to the pursuer - it can be well combined with a skill that, under similar conditions, gives a powerful upgrade to the speed of repair and opening the gate.

Chambers is designed as a support hero and, in my opinion, received a much more successful set of abilities. Thanks to the Like New skill, an ally healed by a girl gains a 12/14/16% increase in the speed of repairing generators, healing, opening chests, and cleaning totems for 16 seconds.

The Rally perk allows Rebecca to freeze the resistance progress of a hooked Survivor for 20/25/30 seconds. The ability can be used once every 40 seconds while within six meters of an ally caught by the maniac to buy time to distract the villain.

The ability "Full Focus" gives Chambers tokens for a perfect reaction check. Each token increases the chance of a Skill Check occurring by 4% and increases Pointer Speed by 4%, while the bonus for Great Skill Checks increases by 10/20/30% of its base value.

The perk is quite controversial, since it is easy to lose all the tokens at once, it is enough to miss once and pass the check in the usual way, fail it or interrupt it. But surely there are craftsmen whose reflexes will allow him to realize his potential.

Behavior's models came out very worthy. Chambers in a classic STARS Bravo outfit, Ada Wong in a seductive red dress. True, the girl preferred black low-heeled shoes to shoes with high thin stilettos, which may not be so sexy, but certainly much more comfortable.

With the release of Resident Evil: PROJECT W Chapter, Dead by Daylight naturally added additional skins for new heroes. Ada got the beige coat she wore in the RE2 remake, Chambers… the authentic settler costume, and Wesker the STARS captain uniform we saw him wearing in the original and RE remake.

In addition, for Jill Valentine (the hero of the previous collaboration with Resident Evil), Behavior drew a very believable model of Sheva Alomar, Leon got the opportunity to become Carlos Oliveira, and for the Legion they developed a new legendary skin that turns him into Hunk, a special agent and leader of an elite unit of the Security Service " Umbrella".

This time, all the skins and images of the Behavior designers succeeded with dignity, even the voice acting of the characters did not let us down. Unless the animation of Wesker's running raises questions, but this is an old and funny sore project, which I don’t even want to find fault with. RE fans will love the new DLC. Especially for those who are not afraid of new challenges, because in capable hands Albert Wesker is very strong and quick to kill.
